Camp Loughridge Summer Job Descriptions
Counselor/Activity Specialist:
The majority of our staff positions are for counselors/activity specialists. This position is for those who want to be on the front lines of camping ministry. Your days will be spent with a tribe of campers from drop-off through pick-up. You will be responsible for developing a community atmosphere within your tribe which will include laughing, singing, sweating, sharing the word and having fun with your campers as they learn about Christ. During your summer you will spend at least one week as an activity specialist (instructor) in at least one area. You will be trained and responsible for that activity. You will share responsibility with other staff for teaching that activity to every tribe during that camp session.
Arts & Crafts Specialist:
This position will be responsible for all of the art and crafts activities that occur during our camp sessions. Each week there will be additional staff assigned to assist the A&C Specialist. This position consists of preparing projects that are age appropriate for each age group/gender of campers, coordinating set up and clean up all arts and crafts supplies on a daily basis, and teaching campers how to complete the designed project. You will also be responsible for maintaining the inventory of supplies and being sure to identify when more supplies need to be purchased.
Challenge Course Specialist:
This position will be responsible for set-up/tear down of all course elements, leading tribes and campers through the various challenge course activities, and helping provide routine maintenance. Each week there will be additional staff assigned to assist the Challenge Course Specialist. You will also work closely with the program director in coordinating challenge course usage with outside rental/retreat groups as necessary. Note: this will include working times outside of the normal Day Camp Schedule, including weekends.
Office Assistant:
This job is for someone who is more administratively gifted and enjoys the behind the scenes work that really makes camp a successful operation. Your responsibility is to assist our year round Office Manager. These responsibilities will include organizing camper enrollments, answering the phone, assisting parents who drop-off campers late or pick-up campers early, office filing, working on the computer, and a wide variety of other tasks.
Maintenance Assistant:
Our maintenance position is aimed at assisting our year round Maintenance Coordinator in keeping our grounds and facilities up and running for campers and rental groups to use and enjoy. Your work would include but is not limited to mowing & weed-eating, minor facility repairs, vehicle maintenance, minor camp construction, etc.
First Aid Specialist:
This position is focused on the health and safety of our campers. This position is solely devoted to providing care for campers and staff as minor emergencies occur within the camp environment. This position also is responsible for dispensing medication to campers, maintaining all health forms during each camp session, keeping an inventory of all supplies in our first aid station, and maintaining a log of all medication or aid that is administered during the week. We desire for this position to be filled by someone who is experienced in or actively pursuing a degree or career in the nursing or medical field.
Lifeguard:
Lifeguards during bather times serve in a standard lifeguard chair rotations, supervising pool patrons in and around the pool areas. In the case of waterfront supervision, the Lifeguard will supervise waterfront sports (canoeing and Kayaking) patrons in and around waterfront areas. During non-bather times, Lifeguards are responsible for pool and facility maintenance and cleaning (including bathhouse and restroom areas) and assisting the Head Lifeguard with any other necessary duties. Lifeguards work regular camp hour and have the option to work non-camp events for extra money at an hourly rate.
Video Specialist:
This position focuses on shooting moving and still photography. This person is responsible for shooting and creating weekly videos as well as shooting still photographs for the camp.
Worship Leader:
The worship leaders is someone who is gifted in leading children and young teens in worship. It includes leading worship during chapel times, Thursday campout, and at Pow-Wow one of the wildest time at camp.
Work schedule:
Being a camp counselor is the hardest job you’ll ever love. We expect for you to give 100% all the time! The workday begins at 8:00 am SHARP and ends around 5:40 p.m. Our standard summer camp program runs from Monday through Friday. There may be some staff positions that will require longer hours or shorter hours, staying over night, or working on Saturday or Sunday. Your contract and job description will specify your particular responsibility.
